History

In August 1997, the Smart Card Security Systems Group was founded as a voluntary group to research, develop and promote security systems for private corporations, academic institutions, and government organizations.  When the group was founded, the majority of Smart Card demand was limited to bulk order customers including financial institutions and transport facilities.  Smart Card chip manufactures and printing companies were the leading players developing and installing these security systems.

In October 2002, the Smart Card Security Systems Group advanced to become the current Security System Integration Partners Group (SSIPG) to promote the possibilities of the personal authentication market not only in the closed corporate intranet, but also in an internet world and its multi-applications.  SSIPG expanded markets especially to large scale clients who require bulk quantity ID card systems (student ID, employee ID, membership ID) for private corporations, academic institutions and other organizations.

Organization

SSIPG consists of a Board Chair Committee, Administrative Office, and Working Groups (WG).  The current working groups are; Security Consulting WG, PC/SC Promotion WG, Security Engineers Registration System Promotion WG, Fingerprint API Integration WG, Security Insurance Products WG, and NASIS WG.

Members Collaboration

SSIPG is a consortium, where partners are tied together with mutual business purposes including co-development of new products, co-promotion of products, and co-enhancement of new ideas on a project-based relationship, whereas other membership organizations are normally formed for information exchange and networking.  In other words, members join the SSIPG consortium and cooperate with each other for a certain project with a clear goal.  Any necessary legal actions in relation to the project, including Sales Agreements, Joint Development Agreements, and Non-Disclosure Agreements are taken care of among members who are involved in the project.  It is made very clear for members before they join, that this organization is not the place to compete or steal from each other, but rather the place to enhance business opportunities for mutual benefit.

Pascal's Pail Image - Water flows out from the shortest panel

When a security system is proposed to end users, we often explain our security concept with "Pascal's Pail". As you can see the above, water flows out from the shortest board of a pail.  In other words, the shortest board decides the capacity of the pail.  This concept can be applied to security systems.  The weakest part of the many security components (authentication technology, Smart Card technology, Encryption technology and so forth) decides the security level of that system.

In order to avoid imbalance among different security elements, SSIPG encourages members to join that can add their competitive edge and their strengths to the group.  The objective of SSIPG is to become like a "metal strap", wrapping around Pascal’s Pail, holding together each solid and high-length board (members), and to provide the highest level of security technology and service solutions to the market.  When each partner focuses on their own specialties, we can expedite the release of products and service.  We can reinforce collaboration of marketing strategies to expand sales, and save on the total cost of products.
